Venezuelan-Israeli artist Meital Katz Minerbo creates a visual language to recognize the women whose labor helped shape the agricultural and social landscape in pre-state Israel. During the Second Aliyah and the decades that followed, women harvested crops, founded horticulture and landscaping schools and organized for the right to work the land on equal terms.

Utilizing methods of making traditionally associated with women’s labor including sewing, ceramics, weaving and painting, Katz Minerbo’s botanical drawings and sculptures move between plant, body and tool. Refusing to let these women become footnotes, each of her pieces honors the life and labor of a pioneer.

The exhibition Undercover Agriculture is a cooperation between the Jewish Museum of Florida and the Bloomstead Farm Residency.
